Test Taking Tips

  • Get into the reading habit now. Read whenever you can, at least 15 minutes a day. Read all sorts of material - anything that interests you. The research proves that reading enhances literacy skills.

  • Pamper yourself during the two test days! Get lots of sleep the night before the test and eat plenty of healthy food, including a good breakfast both test days.

  • Follow the instructions! If you are asked to write one paragraph, do not write three. If you are asked to write a summary of an article, do not write something longer than the original. Count your words for a summary and stay within the limit of the instruction. Do what you are asked to do. See Test Taking Do's and Don'ts

  • Budget your time! Be sure to leave 20 to 30 minutes for that Writing Task that EQAO hides at the end of every booklet! Buy or borrow a watch ... and use it. The supervisors will warn you when there is only 15 minutes remaining.
